Todd Herr is Group Product Manager, Receiver Services at Return Path. In that role he is charged with dreaming up and then creating the next generation of products and services that will help ISPs, mailbox providers and corporate administrators battle spam more effectively and create better inbox experiences for everyone who loves email. Prior to joining Return Path in April 2010, Todd Herr was the Postmaster for Time Warner Cable/Road Runner for nearly six years, where he was primarily responsible for mail policies affecting inbound and outbound mail for Road Runner customers. Todd worked in the ISP market in various capacities for nearly half of his career as an IT professional. He is active in anti-spam organizations, and has been a contributing author to multiple publications in his fields of specialization.

MAAWG Announces Best Practices for Feedback Loops

This week the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) released their newest Best Common Practices (BCP) document, focused on complaint feedback loops. Complaint Feedback Loops provide a mechanism for ISPs and other mailbox providers to funnel spam complaints from their customers back to the sender of the message. While they were originally conceived as tools just for ISPs to use to identify abuse coming from their servers and networks, most ISPs that offer them today allow email marketers, publishers, and other senders to enroll, and those traditional bulk senders have made it standard practice to do so.
